From time to time carrying a big wallet can be a hassle. Especially when you are going out and there is a big bulge on your pants. A while ago, I stumbled upon this great DYI How to on how to make a paper wallet. A paper wallet is great because papers are thin. At first it seems kind of risky to put your money on paper (puns anyone?). But, as I soon found out, the wallet is pretty sturdy.
The Pros…
- Thinner
- More customizable
- More eco-friendly
- Has a geek factor
- Different
- Less pocket (So you won’t have the urge to fill your wallet with junk)
The Cons…
- Loses durability faster
- Has a geek factor
- Gets dirty easier most of the time
- Not as pretty (most of the time)
- Less pocket
Making the wallet mine…
But like with everything I have, I am never satisfied with the original. I always have the urge to mod everything. From my MP3 Player, desktop, and even my phones. So I decided to make it even more different.
The first thing i did was to find a different kind of paper. A paper that’s more durable then printing paper. As I Looked around trying to find a great substitute for paper, I found Tyvek. Tyvex is a great substitute because it is waterproof, as thin as paper, tear-resistant, and smooth. As I later found out, there were many DYI wallet that uses tyvek. The best thing about tyvex is that it is easy to find. Just look around for a used industrial envelope. Most of them should be using tyvex. But just to becareful I also added a construction paper. The construction paper turns out to do more than just making the wallet stronger (Tip: Just tape the corners, don’t glue them together). The 2nd paper created an extra pocket in the wallet that lets me put a “secret” pocket.
Sadly, My Obsesive Compulsiveness didn’t stop there. I combining other paper wallet blueprint. With the idea from this wallet, i created a thumb slider to one of the credit card pocket. I also added a “second wallet” to this wallet based on this wallet.
The next thing I’m going to do is beautify it. Stay tuned! Wow how many times did I say wallet?
