Once again I would like to say sorry for my absence on this blog. The truth is that it was because of my finals. But I have good news, those days are gone now. Well at least until my next final anyway.
*Disclaimer: I am in fact a Christian, and I believe that a good Christian should know how to defend them self. This post will talk about the controversial believe of the Christian religion, if you don’t like how that sounds, move along to another post. May i suggest this one?

Anyways, a while ago I found this interesting but controversial website about the Christian religion; in detail, the reality of Jesus’ existence. I decided to see if it was just blasphemy or if it actually had meaning. Well, it turns out that it had some interesting points, but like the bible, there is no absolute proof that Jesus did/didn’t exist. This is one of the example that they have given which is based on historical facts. (I added my comment after the “<<” )
Here are rules of the Sanhedrin that were in place at the time according to the Jewish Mishnah:
- No criminal session was allowed at night. << Jesus was taken down before the sun had set therefore it is not yet night.
- No Sanhedrin trial could be heard at any place other than the Temple precincts. << It was not a Sanhedrin trial because there wasn’t 70-72 judicial members present to begin with at the trial.
- No capital crime could be tried in a one-day sitting. << It was not so much a trial rather, a demand by the Jews.
- No criminal trial could be held on the eve of a Sabbath or festival. << It was not so much a criminal trial because the Jews had a tradition of releasing one prisoners around this time, and Pilate decided to free one and take one. In this case Jesus was taken and Barabbas was freed.
- No one could be found guilty on his own confession. << Same reason as #4 and because he was convicted by the people not by himself.
- No blasphemy charge could be sustained unless the accused pronounced the name of God in front of witnesses. << The witnesses were the people, which most probably had heard one of his sermon or they wouldn’t had been there.
- The Sanhedrin were allowed to execute people on their own and did not need the Romans to do so for them. << Because it was a capital crime and they were under the Romans’ rule at that period of time.
