Apparently, I will take over the Web + Ranting on PSDTuts

This is the one where Jon talks about his Web 2.0 skills and rant on about a new Photoshop tutorial site.

What about you?

On an unrelated note, I would like to present you with PSDTuts.. Yesterday I stumbled across this brand spanking new Photoshop tutorial site. Unlike other tutorial site, this site will be more exclusive (it’s still a free tut site though). Not all submission are accepted and each accepted tutorial will receive a handsome amount of $75.So far the tuts has only been created by the creator of the site, but it does look promising. Most of the tuts seems to be original and creative. The bad thing is that your tutorials are exclusive their site for 9 months. That probably means you can’t even post them on your site.

So do you think you’re good enough? Then fire up your Photoshop now!

silly things these days

Note to self, when making a new theme for wordpress, don’t forget to insert your tracking script. This week I was so suprised that i had gotten 0 hit. At first I thought it was just a server error so I decided to wait for a while. I was wrong. There goes my stat for the week. Kids, next time you create a wordpress theme don’t forget to pay attention to the details. Silly me…

Search and give

This is the one where Jon talks about a new search engine that helps out the community.

GoodSearch: You Search...We Give!

A “semi” new search engine called GoodSearch powered by Yahoo’s search engine is providing the common internet user with the power to give others while surfing the web normally. All you have to do is write in the name of the organization you would like to give to, and search! Each search gives about a penny or so to the organization.

Here’s a new easy way to raise money for your favorite cause. Just start using GoodSearch.com as your search engine. Every time you search, they make a donation to your favorite nonprofit or school and it’s powered by Yahoo! so you get great search results! - GoodSearch

Too bad it doesn’t use Google (Yes I’m bias like that. No offence to Yahoo). Now to find the organization I would like to donate to…

Your camera’s hidden “Shutter Priority”

This is the one where Jon finds a new feature in an old camera.

DSC03947.JPG

A couple weeks ago, I was traveling at night and there was this amazing sky above me. I had to take a picture of it. Sadly, my new camera wasn’t there with me. I only had my ol’ Sony DSC-p7. Because it was dark, and there is no way the flash would help and it didn’t have shutter priority I thought that taking the shot was impossible. Boy was I wrong (about it not having shutter priority, the actual picture of the sky didn’t turn out very well).

After shuffling through the camera’s menus system I found a mode which I never used before. It was called “SCN” I have no idea what that stands for but in it, there is a “night mode” which you can manipulate to get a kind of “shutter priority”mode.

nightmode.JPG

So how is this done? All I had to do was switch to this night mode; cover the lens with my hand or anything to trick the camera into thinking that the situation was dark. Then press the “shoot button” half way so that the camera sets its settings. Uncover the lens, and shoot away. The camera should be shooting in a slower shutter speed depending on how much you covered the lens.

In 5 easy bullet points

  1. switch to night mode.
  2. cover the lens.
  3. press the “shoot button” halfway.
  4. uncover the lens.
  5. shoot.

Good luck and have fun!
