Today I’ve bought myself some of Moleskine. I was dying to try it out seeing how most designer I know uses them. It has been said it gives the user magical power to kill things some help for inspiration. The Moleskine website said that it’s been used by people from Vincent van Gogh to Ernest Hemingway. So I totally gave in to peer pressure and got a black cahier to use for “field notes”.
The 50 Cent
It wasn’t extraordinary but you can tell it’s different than other pocket notebooks. Especially because I normally buy mine from the 99 cent store being the cheap Asian I am. It’s quite a step up. Although I am a bit disappointed by this one specific notebook. It could be normal but, the end of the string is sticking out(for a lack of a better word. It’s just unpleasant to me and I ended up cutting it.

The Myth
Now to talk about the myth that moleskine inspires you. I think I know why. Well this is just my indy thinking but I think it inspires me because of its brand and history. Being a relatively expensive notebook I just can’t help taking care of it delicately. I keep trying to keep it perfect. So when I start designing or drawing something and something is a bit off, I can’t help not to fix it. I feel bad for making a mistake and feel the need to make it look better. Of course I’m not perfect, so I keep refining it. Eventually it looks 100x better than what I began with. But it’s not so much the paper and the built, but the psychological idea that it is better. Again, this could be just me writing this at 12:00am. (I should really stop procrastinating and write earlier X.X)
Conclusion
Well, this is just my 50 cent on the notebook. Is it worth the money? I don’t know, I haven’t had enough time to actually use it. After all I just got it today =). How’s your experience with your notebook? And being the noob I am, what “hacks” do you suggest I start with?
