Upgrade complete!

Wordpress 2.5 Dashboard

Courtesy of Wordpress automatic upgrade plugin. It sure saved me from any problem. I was able to upgrade in about 3 clicks, without even thinking! Yes I do think.

The back end went through quite a refresh. Everything is brighter and more white. Although I’m quite indifferent about it. But as always I welcome a new design with open arms. As always is pretty slick and clean. There’s less blue and more white with a touch of gray. We’ll see how this new baby runs. For some reason, the really light baby blue color (Ex. the one on the header) doesn’t seem to show on my monitor. I had to re-calibrate my monitor and lower the contrast for it to appear. It looks much better with the baby blue, or else it is too white for me. But that’s just my preference. (more…)

a* is back!

avalonstar

After a long hiatus, Avalonstar finally returns. Fellow designers rejoice! Or at least I did. The new design is simply great and is filled with eye candy. Talk about sensory overload. So much attention to detail! I hope one day I can be as good as Bryan. Well enough about my ranting, check it out :)

It’s been 7 years, 5 months and 23 days. Never have I felt so drained after preparing a website for this domain before, but this really brings light to the phrase, “you get what you put in.” I’ve had long hiatuses before. However, none have seemed as long or drawn out as this one, and with this post and this new design I am proud to put an end to it. So, let’s start at the top shall we? I’m sure you’d like to know a little more about the 25th version of Avalonstar I call Distortion.

Project Distortion’s formation was fueled sheer anger I had towards the last version of the namesake, which ironically, has found its way off the internet. You’ll hear it straight from the Filipino’s mouth—that version was a copout

Weekend Roundup

rainbow

A couple day ago, I finished creating my 2nd tutorial for PSDTUTS, my first being “How To Create An Old-World Map In Photoshop“. So what’s the result? Well it’s the post’s header image. Well it’s not up yet, but just a heads up. (more…)

Imo: The Birth of a Meebo Competitor

IMO

While in the search for the best IM client out there, I was tipped off on this new one, Imo. So new it is still in its alpha stage. But don’t let the blatant alpha tag fool you, this thing got potential. By the way you multi-service user will be happy to know this thing includes, yahoo, msn, and google talk. It also allows yahoo partners service (I.E SBCGlobal) unlike some client. Did I mention this web-app has video chatting??

The Interface

Starting off, they have a pretty clean interface. I would say it look very much like a Google product. Its baby bluish theme, rounded corners just reminds me of Google. It even has the Google styled “loading…” in the top corner when it’s loading, albeit this one is red. Which puzzles me because it’s the only red thing. And in my opinion doesn’t fit the color scheme. I’m not saying its bad by any means. Not my favorite, but it can be work on.

Woopra: A Brand Spanking New Web Analytic Service

Woopra

The header says it all. I just signed up for the beta test. Looking forward to testing this baby out. It seems pretty straight forward and dark. Although you do have to wait for their approval on the website you’re tracking. The website says that Woopra

  • Can track live
  • Can tag visitors
  • Has its own IM
  • Analyze in real time
  • Will let you have custom alerts
  • Has a specialized Wordpress plugin for easy install!
  • And maybe develop your own tools

Seems pretty robust and interesting. But I won’t judge a book by its cover. Who knows if it will be better or worse than Google Analytic or Mint. Stay tuned for the review (assuming I have a chance too).
