Wordpress 2.5 Dashboard

Courtesy of Wordpress automatic upgrade plugin. It sure saved me from any problem. I was able to upgrade in about 3 clicks, without even thinking! Yes I do think.

The back end went through quite a refresh. Everything is brighter and more white. Although I’m quite indifferent about it. But as always I welcome a new design with open arms. As always is pretty slick and clean. There’s less blue and more white with a touch of gray. We’ll see how this new baby runs. For some reason, the really light baby blue color (Ex. the one on the header) doesn’t seem to show on my monitor. I had to re-calibrate my monitor and lower the contrast for it to appear. It looks much better with the baby blue, or else it is too white for me. But that’s just my preference.

The write section has changed quite dramatically. I loved how they added a permalink edit now. And of course the new add media section is wonderful. But I can’t help but be “weirded” out by the Add video icon The Media Button. I think it is a symbol of the Windows Movie maker Screen? . Speaking of design, The light box that pops out when you click on one of the icons seems to not follow the Color scheme. It’s not even the same as the other light boxes (ex. When you click the add link). Then again when you compare to 2 light boxes, the “add link” box doesn’t look much like anything else in Wordpress. But that’s just nitpicking on design. It’s how it works that matters right? I also liked how they added “edit post” beside the “view post” after you click the publish button because often times I realized I need to edit something. Sure it’s a minor addition, but I have just used it to add this little part.

The 2 lightboxes

They also moved a bunch of settings to the main column and replaced right column for the publish status. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing. Sure the page seems more structured, but the right column feels empty now. And it makes it a bit unbalanced in my opinion. Remember I’m just pointing out the changes. Don’t get me wrong and think that I’m disliking it. What I do like is they made the advanced option hidden by default, which means that there is less cluttered. They also made all the important parts and titles bigger, which is a big improvement (pun intended). It’s easier to scan the page and find what you need now.

I know this is only the beginning, but I think you should try it out for yourself. Overall I like most of the changes. I was getting bored of the old design anyway. Looking forward to using some of the new toys they implemented. And if you’re not using wordpress, you can either ignore this post or upgrade to wordpress. Yes upgrade. :)

[edit] I had to take out the “Most Popular Post” because It seems to be incompatible because of a fatal error with Wordpress 2.5. Although I did find a solution for it, It did not work for me. I was given a “Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘.’”. Maybe you’ll have better luck. And no I didn’t add any “.”. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

[edit 2] It’s fixed! After re-writting “require(’../wp-blog-header.php’);”, it worked. Try it if you’re having a parse error like me. Good luck!
