I love the quality. My husband does as well. He prefers mine over his cheaper ones. BUT, mine shorted out as well, after around 6 months of use. So I am in market for another skullcandy earbud set. Is the Smokin better than just the regular Ink’d?

@Sweetievajj, unfortunately, you may be out of luck. The problem could be something scratched the lens and thus rendering the cd drive useless because if under a clean install and the right driver and it still doesn’t work, there might not be much left to do.
One more thing to try is to get a ubuntu or some kind of distro, and try to boot on it. See if its a windows problem or if it is a bios problem. If the computer can not boot from ubuntu (which boots before windows even turns on) than I’m sorry to say that the drive is probably dead.

AND I also wanted to mention my guess would be that the speakers are the same for both as well… THE SPEAKER SUCK, that would be my only real complaint of this system… they are quite loud but the sound quality is terrible!

I have the gateway w350i notebook which is VERY close to the one here. From the pictures you would never know the difference between them unless you looked at the model# on the bottom. I enjoy this computer very much I have had very little problems with it, except for recently my Optiarc DVD RW AD-7563A ATA Drive has stopped recognizing ANY disk what so ever. It does show that it is working properly in my system properties & is enable in bios as well. I was given a new external hard drive for xmas so I copied my files on to it & did a system restore back to factory defaults & still alas NOTHING!!! please any help… I like my laptop very much but this is proving to be quite an annoyance!

MY dad gave me this laptop a month ago 10-02=09 It was motherboad and harddrive was destroyed when I got it. Still under warrenty, sent it to gateway repair temple tx, They put a brand new motherboard in it and new 160 hardrive. Well, fatest surfing notebook Ive ever had, but want to sell it. still under warranty and new motherboard ha BEST COMPUTER ON THE MARKET selling for $430 inquies call (601) 850-1211 ask for mike clark
